It’s a book! It is also an opportunity to exploring what it means to use a skateboard as a way of transforming internal as well as external conflicts.

First there was skateboarding, then in 2015 our founding lady Sophie Friedel had the honor to publish #theartoflivingsideways and now we enjoy taking the lessons learned from this process to hold workshops.

The book starts off by sharing experiences with skateboarding as a peace-building tool with the awesome NGO “Skateistan” in Afghanistan.

Then there is an important chapter on peace research. Highly inspired by the Innsbruck School of Peace and especially Norbert Koppensteiner she outline a method of research that includes the personal experience of the researcher.

The main part of the book is the introduction of skateboarding as a methodology for inner peace and balance. Influenced by the humanistic roots of psychology Sophie Friedel started to explore the potentials of skateboarding to the human mind and body.

The book ends by introducing skateboarding as a form of therapy and gives a list of NGO´s around the world that do work with skateboarding for change.

Skateboarding has grand potentials and a lot of interesting research, as well as projects, can be done. If you like to collaborate, share your experience or interested in our work we would love to hear from you: hallo@sophiefriedel.org
